What Are Roman Shades?

Roman shades are a type of window covering made from soft fabric that folds neatly into horizontal panels as you raise them. When lowered, they sit flat against the window for a clean, tailored look; when raised, they stack evenly at the top, adding subtle texture and style. Roman shades are popular for their versatility – they can feel modern or traditional depending on the fabric – and they provide excellent light control and privacy while bringing warmth and softness to a space.

3 Shade Styles For You To Choose From

FLAT

A flat roman is by far the most popular style that we make. When in the closed position, the fabric hangs flat. When pulled open, it stacks neatly with uniform folds.

Style Notes: Classic, Contemporary.

CLASSIC

This roman is very similar to the flat roman except that we sew in equally spaced bars into the folds. This adds dimension and visual interest across the face of the shade. We recommend this style for solid fabrics that could use the extra detail. It also helps reduce the pinholes of light if you are choosing a blackout roman.

Style Notes: Tailored, Contemporary.

HOBBLED

This style is popular with traditional decorators. It adds full billowing pleats to a roman when it is in the down position. It is a great option if you want to add softness and that finishing touches to windows that are not able to take drapery.

VALENCE OPTIONS

2 Valence Styles For You To Choose From

WATERFALL

Shade material is attached to the front of the head rail without a valance. When raised, the material rises from the bottom in flat folds. Optional back valance is available upon request.

STANDARD

Shade material is attached to the back of the head rail. Shade includes a 6″ valance to conceal the components. When raised, the material rises from the bottom in flat folds.

4 Control Options For You To Choose From

MANUAL CORDLESS SHADES

• Cordless shades have no lift cords on the front of the shade
• The shade is lowered by pulling the hem bar to the desired position
• Clear grips are added to the hem bar for easy operation
• Available up to 96 inches wide and 96 inches long when mounted on standard depth headrails

• Top Down Bottom Up cordless shades can be raised from the bottom or lowered from the top
• Available with attached liners
• Maximum width for Top Down Bottom Up shades is 66 inches

CLUTCH CONTROL SHADES

• Uses a nylon continuous cord loop to raise and lower the shades
• Cord color is white only
• Cord lengths available in 2 ft, 3 ft, 4 ft, 5 ft, and 6 ft options
• Cord length is typically two thirds of the shade height
• A valance is required with the clutch control system
• The cord is positioned on the side, which may allow light to pass through a small side gap

WAND CONTROL SHADES

• Operated by a rechargeable lithium ion battery motor
• Micro USB charging port is located on the back of the wand
• Available wand lengths include 24 inches, 36 inches, 48 inches, and 60 inches
• Wand control is available for roman shades with a valance
• Fabric width is slightly narrower than the valance to allow space for the wand
• Wand is positioned on the side, which may allow light to pass through a small side gap

REMOTE CONTROL SHADES

• Motor is powered by a rechargeable lithium ion battery
• Micro USB port is located at the top of the battery for easier and safer access

• Quiet lithium ion battery motor uses a more powerful rechargeable battery
• Micro USB port is located at the top for easier and safer access

• Alternating current motor operates on 100V to 240V
• Includes a built in transformer with a 2 ft pigtail
• Requires installation by a licensed electrician
